The Four Transformations — Lu, Quan, Ke, Ji as Life’s Compass
💡 Reading time: ~8 minutes | Series: Purple Star Astrology Series (Article 9/20)
The Four Transformations are the essence of Zi Wei Dou Shu and the key to reading fortune. “Transformation” means change, and the four represent four crucial life shifts: Hua Lu (affinity), Hua Quan (power), Hua Ke (reputation), Hua Ji (attachment).
| Transformation | Nature | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Hua Lu | Affinity, enjoyment | Wealth, connections, opportunities, smoothness, fulfillment |
| Hua Quan | Power, desire | Leadership, decisiveness, achievement, pressure, conflict |
| Hua Ke | Reputation, wisdom | Fame, education, noble help, stability, relief from hardship |
| Hua Ji | Attachment, karmic debt | Setbacks, trouble, loss, entanglement, life lesson |
The right way to understand Hua Ji
Hua Ji isn’t absolutely bad! It represents “attachment” and “life lessons.” The palace Hua Ji falls into is the place in your life you need to learn, and the place you care about most. For example, Hua Ji in the Wealth Palace shows attachment to money — which can actually make you a financial expert. Hua Ji in the Spouse Palace shows attachment to relationships — which can make you value marriage more.
The Four Transformations shift with major luck and annual luck, so each year has a different focus palace. Read the transformations and you’ll know which areas of life have opportunity this year, and which call for caution.
