Major Luck Cycles and Annual Luck — The Time Code of Life’s Ups and Downs
💡 Reading time: ~7 minutes | Series: Bazi Series (Article 5/20)
Your Bazi chart is the “car you’re born with”; the major luck cycles and annual luck are the “road you drive on.” A good car on a good road — smooth sailing. A good car on a bad road — bumpy. A bad car on a good road — you can still move forward. A bad car on a bad road — every step is a struggle.
How is the major luck cycle cast?
-
Yang-year male / Yin-year female: forward order. Yin-year male / Yang-year female: reverse order.
-
From the birth day, count the days to the nearest seasonal node, divide by 3 to get the starting age.
-
Each major luck cycle lasts 10 years. A lifetime covers about 7–8 major cycles.
Ten years east, ten years west
No one is lucky forever, and no one is unlucky forever. When luck is good, seize the opportunity and push forward. When luck is down, lay low and invest in yourself. Knowing what to do at the right time is the true wisdom of life.
Annual luck (Liu Nian) affects each year more directly. The interaction between annual luck and the natal chart and major luck — the punishments, clashes, combinations, harms — is the key to that year’s fortune. For example, the Tai Sui year (the year of your zodiac animal) tends to bring change; Clash Tai Sui tends to bring upheaval and challenge.
